Explore the hidden food gems of Athens

Julia and her husband, George, took us on an amazing tour of their city, introducing us to the sights, smells, and tastes of Athens. Not only was it delectable, it was educational! We learned so many nuances along the path that they took us on. Having grown up here, Julia has an in depth knowledge of her city and she leaves you with a richness that makes you want to return. While George forges ahead to prepare for the next stops along the path, Julia fills in so many details along the way. Our experience included hand-crafted pies, third generation artfully crafted spices and honey, the fish market, the meat market in which Julia's father once had a booth, to carefully selected restaurants with historical significance in which you experience the culinary heritage for which the Greek's are known. A great cook herself having learned from her grandmother, Julia has a vast knowledge of the seasonality of the Greek foods (varying foods for the seasons) and shares her knowledge and family tradition throughout the tour. She even takes you by her childhood home that is now a boutique hotel and shares stories of growing up there. You leave with visions of her living there as a young girl with her multigenerational family that taught her so much about the importance of bringing the family together through food. They were the optimal host and hostess providing the very best of the Greek culinary culture!! Thank you Julia and George!!

This was a great way to start our time I. Athens and Greece overall. Douk provided a great experience rooted in his families long traditions with good. We have already gone back to the market to make more purchases and look forward to applying what we have learned. Thanks for everything
