Taste the most local food in Athens. Skip the tourist traps and discover the local bites of the Greek culture. More than 14 traditional, delicious, freshly cooked tastings. We will be walking in the heart of central Athens, where Athenians do their shopping for the daily meal.

We will introduce you to the vendors of our favorite local shops, share traditional breakfast delicacies, smell and learn about herbs and spices, visit a deli shop to taste the original honey glazed yoghurt and take you to the magical word of olives. Also, one of the best Greek traditional restaurants (mageirio) will be accommodating you for a seated lunch, cheese tasting and of course, you’ll try a dessert.
During the walk, you’ll meet our old friends in the oldest vegetable, fish and meat market of Athens and you’ll also try our best wines and distillates of the region.
Get the chance to know how to cook all the dishes you will try, and get local insight into recipes, tips for Athens, the islands and the culinary traditions.

Knowledgeable and fun

Julia & Douk’s food tour was recommended to me by a friend, and it did not disappoint! Julia is very knowledgeable about the food & culture in Greece, with great connections to shop & market owners who will give you an authentic experience & products at a fair price. She has recommendations for all over Greece & the many islands, not just Athens, making sure we didn’t fall for any tourist traps. She goes above & beyond to stay in touch and ensure we made the best of our wonderful stay. I cannot recommend this tour enough!

Above our expectations

This is a wonderful food tour! Really exceeded our expectations! We enjoyed our time with Douk very much- he was fun and engaging and informative! The stops we made along the way were amazing and felt so authentic! Definitely not areas we would have naturally ventured into on our own, so this made the experience all the more special! The foods we sampled were delicious and there was plenty! The lunch at the end was tasty and fun! Douk taught us how to make great Tzatziki and we had a great time getting to know the other folks on the tour! Tour highlights included: pastry/pie shop, spice shop (our favorite!), charcuterie shop, honey shop, market with olives (where Douk pulled out his own scoops to give us samples!), walk-through of fish & meat market, and local shop specializing in yogurts, honeys, etc. All this followed by a relaxing and delicious lunch! Great and fun way to get to know special spots in Athens and eat yummy food! A couple notes- buy as you go since many shops we visited close early, so you may not make it back to purchase wanted items later. Bring a bottle of water and use the restroom before the tour begins as there isn’t really convenient places to stop along the way. Also- I recommend doing this tour early on during your time in Athens as it gives you such a beautiful, authentic taste of the city!

Sensational!

The tour was sensational. Both guys (Julia & Douk) are doing some very serious job. It is almost unreal how it is possible, only in a few hour tour, to discover so many local tastes. Very hospitable, extremely informative and appreciator of Athens and the Greek gastronomy. Regardless to say, that in case you visit Athens, that is no miss tour. Thank you Julia & Douk!
